Jennifer Smith is a Chicago based professional freelance flutist and private flute instructor. Being a native of the Chicago suburbs, Jennifer has recently returned to the area after finishing a six year position as flutist and piccoloist with the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C. She received both B.M. and M.M. degrees from Illinois State University studying under Max Schoenfeld and Kimberly McCoul Risinger. She has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, DAR Constitution Hall, Library of Congress, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and Symphony Center. She also had the honor of performing as a soloist at The Capitol Building and on Millennium Stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Through her love of travel, Jennifer has international performing experience with the Canterbury Christ Church College Baroque Chamber Orchestra in Kent, England and Collegium Musicum in Berlin, Germany.

Private Lessons

Teaching flute and piccolo has been a passion of mine for over 20 years and I hold high standards for my students of all levels. I recommend 30 minute lessons for beginning students, 45-60 minute lessons for intermediate students and 60 minute lessons for advanced students. Lesson times can be booked for the same time once a week. I teach from various method books which I deem appropriate for each student. Please contact me for my rates.

Weddings and Special Events

I have been performing in weddings and special events for over 15 years. I love being able to provide music and being part of someone's special day in their life.  I have performed as a soloist and also perform with a professional cellist upon request.

My fee depends on the type of event I will be performing for. This fee includes the length of time of the event, travel, preparation, and the music I will be providing.  A legal contract will be written up and designed specifically for your event.  A down payment of $100.00 is required to secure your date and time (this is applied toward the total fee and not an extra charge).
